Video, Business, Drones, and Periscope
We had an opportunity to schedule a Video Summit at Chiang Mai, Thailand on September. Nestled at the Healthy B Café Soi 5 in the trendy area of Nimman Johnny Fd has used his influence to create the community he has spoken about in his podcasts and blogs. His facebook group Nomad coffee Club has filled up the café to capacity for the past 5-6 weeks every Friday becoming the place to meet new friends and exchange business ideas within Chiang Mai. Johnny usually moderates and organizes the talks, but was away this week so I took the initiative to organize this summit to keep the momentum going.

During my 4 months in Chiang Mai I found that the businesses that people tended to focus on were Amazon FBA, dropshipping , affiliate marketing, freelancing, or e-books. I wanted to fill the gap and talk about video, drones, and on-line business.
The goal of this summit was to give digital nomads in Chiang Mai and around the world and other online entrepreneurs around the world some different ideas to start a business using video or using video to improve their business.
We had 4 speakers (3 drone owners) including myself that spoke about drones, stock footage, video seo, and periscope. The talk is one hour long
How it was produced
I was speaking and it was crowded so we set up the Canon 6d on a tripod. I recorded the audio with a shotgun mic and a Zoom H5 audio recorder. When it came to editing I just synched the field recorder audio file with the video. I used Final Cut Pro x to put it together. I didn’t do any audio cleanup as the wav file was over 4gb.

My thoughts from the talk
There is definitely a lot of interest in stock footage. I hope I didn’t scare people away with the work it does take to get your clips on-line. Once you get the hang of the workflow you can become more efficient at it. There is a lot of interest in drones and for a good reason. They are fun, affordable and can produce amazing footage and pictures. It remains to be seen how effective the Phantom 3 professional can be for stock footage. In my opinion with the combination of 4k and aerial footage, the creative possibilities, and the brilliant footage I’ve created with this tool I’m very bullish on the drone. People tend to get hung up on regulations for flying. These are constantly changing as rules try to keep up with the technology. In the meantime I think if you fly safely and responsibly the rewards are there. Periscope is definitely the darling social media platform. It’s fun to do and it is using a video platform. The opportunity is now to try to build a following. I will try post the periscope video. It would have been nice to manage the periscope and interact with the audience during this talk.

Gear I use and recommend
These are products I use myself and recommend. These are affiliate links that I get a commission from if you purchase. Thanks if you decide to click and buy from this link
Phantom 3 Professional
It allows me to film 4k aerial videos and photos. It’s easy to travel with and as a 1st generation flyer I appreciate all the safety and technology improvements it allows. The integrated camera allows me to get great stable videos and photos that I can control from the app on my ipad mini 2. Dji’s an established player in aerial drone space and you’re getting a mature quality product with good support and community. If you need training I have produced an on-line course filmed in Chiang Mai Thailand.

Phantom 3 Professional battery
The battery gives you 23 advertised minutes of flight time, but in reality with the critical battery warnings you want to bring it down sooner than this. I recommend that once you hit 10% battery you should be coming back to land. If you buy the Phantom 3 pro drone the battery is definitely a smart purchase if you want more flight time. It will save you the hassle of leaving your flight location to find a coffee shop to charge for an hour. Purchase the battery here.
